Saturday Lotto odds: what 1 in 8.1 million means

How Division 1 is counted (6 main from 45)

Saturday Lotto asks you to mark six main numbers from a field of forty-five. Order does not matter. The official Division 1 prize is paid when those six match the six main winning numbers drawn that Saturday.

The number of ways to choose 6 from 45 is C(45, 6) = (45×44×43×42×41×40) / (6×5×4×3×2×1) = 8,145,060.

So a single standard game has about 1 in 8,145,060 chance of Division 1. That is the same arithmetic as any other 6/45 game. It is not a marketing number. It is the size of the ticket space.

Two supplementary numbers are also drawn. They do not help Division 1. They matter from Division 2 downward. If you treat supplementary balls as a seventh main number, you are describing a different game.

A “system” entry buys more combinations. Buying 8 numbers as a system plays every 6-subset of those 8. You pay for more games. You do not change the odds of any one combination. Two details people mix up:

Supplementary is not a Korean-style single bonus. Saturday Lotto draws two extra balls. Division 2 needs one of them with five mains. Division 5 needs one of them with three mains.
Four mains without a supplementary is Division 4, not a near-miss for Division 2. Near-miss talk is a feeling, not a rule.
